Dr. Chinyere Knight, Ph.D, Chair of the Board
Dr. Chinyere Knight is an alumni of Howard, and has an area of expertise in higher education, biomedical research, and health and wellness. She is currently Assistant Professor at Tuskegee University College of Arts and Sciences and Biology Instructor at Georgia Military College Department of Natural Sciences in Columbus, Georgia. Dr. Knight has also taught at Wayne State University and was the Assistant Coordinator of Howard University’s Center for Preprofessional Education. She has numerous awards and accolades including but not limited to: National Institutes of Health (NIH) Build Post-Doctoral Training Fellowship; Scientist Mentoring and Diversity Program for Medical Technology (SMDP); Dr. James A. Ferguson Emerging Infectious Diseases Fellowship; Edith Hambie Award/Outstanding Fellow; National Science Foundation (NSF)/ Graduate Research Fellowship Program; and the Republic of Cuba (Medical School Scholarship) just to name a few.
Dr. Knight completed her Post-Doctoral fellowship at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and earned her Ph.D., B.S. and B.A. at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Chinyere Knight, is currently a Faculty Fellow: HBCU/JPL/NASA/California Institute of Technology Bioinformatics research, Mars 2020.” In addition, she is leading the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) program for Affinity.

Mateen Abdullah, Vice Chair of the Board, Acting CEO & President
Mateen Abdullah is an alumni of Howard University, and has spent nearly 15 years in public service, and is a visionary who focuses on land feasibility studies, land development, residential zoning, management, and business development. A former professional photographer and freelance cinematographer with an eye for interior design, he is a former Director of Operations for Silver Sky Entertainment, LLC, and has a background in management and leadership. Mateen has received direct land development training from the Laurel Department of Park & Planning. He has also worked as a developer on a series of residential land development projects, and a residential land assemblage project. Mateen was the Developer/Project Manager for a series of residential land development projects in Maryland and Virginia. Mateen’s primary responsibilities include making major corporate decisions, managing the overall daily operations and resources of the company, acting as the main point of communication between the Board of Directors and corporate operations. In addition, his role is to help develop and carryout a business strategy that clearly identifies the company’s mission and goals. Mateen also delegates management responsibilities to others regarding marketing strategies, community wraparound services, land development projects, accounting methods, technology and other areas. Mateen is one of the founding members of Affinity.

Roberta McLeod, Board of Directors
Dr. Roberta McLeod Reeves is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, an alumni of Hampton University, and has served as a professional member of the Division of Student Affairs at Howard University and provided educational training and mentored students. She worked with communities locally, nationally and internationally to provide cultural and educational activities in the intramural and club sports department. She served as a consultant and provided professional training for individuals in the field of International College Unions. In addition, she has served as Director of Howard University Armour J. Blackburn University Center, Director of the Student Center at Penn State University; and 9th Grade Teacher for the Newark Boys Chorus, Newark, NJ. She has received numerous awards and accolades including the Centennial Year of the UNIA-ACL Lifetime African Service Award; State of Maryland Governors Citation for Dedicated Service to Children; Phi Beta Sigma Centennial Award for Service; and the Patron of the Award for the Division of Fine Arts Music Department and named to Global Who’s Who, just to name a few.

Chanel Hicks, Senior Vice President of Mental Health
Chanel Hicks is a native of Detroit, MI, and has been in the Washington, DC area for a little over 4 years. Chanel has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Michigan State University and a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University, where she is currently obtaining her Doctoral degree in Psychology. She has experience working as an Intensive Home-Based Counselor, Mobile Crisis Counselor, Foster Care Case Manager, Wraparound Facilitator, and Outpatient Mental Health Therapist with the Fairfax County Government. Chanel is currently a resident therapist and working towards a PhD in Psychology. Additionally, she works as the Director of figure skating at the capital clubhouse, and teaches figure skating, gymnastics, and cheerleading. She desires to continue working with the community by providing mental health services to those in need.
